“Music piracy exists because of the greed of record labels.”
How much do you agree with this statement?
Please take into consideration that:
– The price of music (not just today, but looking back to the past).
– 1 illegal download does not necessarily lose record labels or artists money as people may not be willing to pay for the song if illegal downloading was not an option.
– The internet has not been the birth of music piracy – it has existed for decades in the forms of making mix tapes to taping the radio.
– Many artist embrace file sharing as an effort to publicize their work and bring attention to new bands. Much more money can be made from live concerts.
Of course I welcome strong opposition as well as agreement in your response.
