Question by 28: What are the benefits of having your own Music Publishing Company?
I’m a musician who recently signed with SESAC and through them was able to establish my own music publishing company. I know very little about music publishing other than whoever owns publishing rights will get paid for the works registered, but what else can I do with this publishing company? How can I use it to my advantage or extend it into other areas of the music business/industry?

You rake all the income derived from sales of your music. But it comes with a price. Establishing a successful publishing company you need to have capital, working management knowledge and extensive network in the business. Bet you want your music to be sold to the mass, let the expert do it. And if you gain enough career and monetary success you can entertain the idea of putting your own publishing company.
