Using Photographs for publicity?
Question by mormess76: Using Photographs for publicity?
Hi, hoping someone can give me an answer! I’m updating our company website and want to put lots of pics of people enjoying our services – it’s a recording studio! We have hen parties, kids’ parties, live music nights, bands recording, team building etc.
None of the pics are of scantily clad people, and none are compromising in any way!
Do I have to get explicit permission from everyone in the photos? No one will be identified at all, but their faces are shown.
Particularly wondering about the kids- I’ve asked verbal permission at the parties for us to use the pics for promotion.
I’ve taken all the photos except for one set, and I’d ask that photographer’s permission.
What’s the legal situation here?

I’m not a lawyer, so seek legal advice. The laws vary in different countries, but….
Yes, you need a Release (an authorisation) from EACH person with a visible body part, including those whose faces aren’t visible.
The verbal approvals you have are worth the paper they’re written on.
Better to use fewer photos all approved than face one lawsuit…
