Should I stay local or go away to college?

Question by Steve: Should I stay local or go away to college?
I live in Long Island, and my county has a close community college called SCCC. It is inexpensive and there is no need to dorm or rent an apartment, since I can just live at home. My parents want me to attend it.

But I want to move to Manhattan for a number of reasons; here is my argument:
1. I hate it here, there is nothing to do and there are no intellectuals to be acquainted with. I absolutely love the urban culture of New York City and have always considered myself a New York kind of person.
2. The college I want to attend in Manhattan is the same cost as SCCC that my parents want me to go to. They can easily afford tuition.
3. The only issue then, is that I need to rent an apartment. I found 2 other people to room with in an apartment that costs $ 2000-2200, which would mean that I would need to take out $ 9000 loan per year and work it off as I attend college. They do not want to cosign on the loan because they do not want to pay for it; but I would promise them I would pay it off.
4. I will be miserable if I am stuck here. All of my friends have moved to Manhattan and I know absolutely no one. I want to major in film and take a filming curriculum and there is none at SCCC. Furthermore, I have a cut-throat ambition to be artistically celebrated worldwide; this is another story, just know if its not accomplished I will, just die – no literally die. lol And there are NO film or music contacts in Long Island, all the opportunities are in Manhattan or Los Angeles.

So if I stay at home, low-cost, living at home, horrible school, no film curriculum, no friends, no business contacts/opportunities. If I go to Manhattan, hard to afford, have to work a lot, great education, film curriculum, friends and many business contacts/opportunities.

Go if you think you’ll have a good time. College is about learning and fun and it sounds like you’ll have more of both in Mahatten. Also, you DO NOT LIVE THAT FAR AWAY……!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am going to go to college in London and I live in Columbus, Ohio. Well thats my dream anyway. SO DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
