Q&A: Too much bass, noise complaints from neighbors?

Question by Binary St4r: Too much bass, noise complaints from neighbors?
I’m a music producer, I have a small project studio at home. I live in an apartment complex, and my apartment is on the top (3rd) floor. I have been getting noise complaints from the people who live under me, even though I produce using moderate (although sometimes I need to crank it up a little) volume and my speakers don’t have a lot of bass (roll-off at 50Hz). However, it seems like the floor of my apartment is thin and people are complaining.

Would it be smart to ask the management for a ground level apartment? Or would the bass just travel upward and create the same problem?

Acoustic room-treatment (bass-traps) is not an option at the moment because I don’t have a budget for that at the moment.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I’m considering studio headphones, although it’s kind of a bummer when I’ve spent $ 1000 on speakers and can’t use them. Obviously I would love a separate space to produce my music but that’s not financially possible right now.
