Q&A: Music industry?

Question by jeno75831: Music industry?
I read this article about the music industry sending hundreds of letters to college kids because they were downloading illegal music. The fine was $ 3000 or they were going to be taken to court. Now my question is this…How in the world can the music industry be that ruthless? Do they understand how much that is actually going to hurt them? Do they honestly think those students will ever even want to buy a CD from them again? When I was in college my friends and I use to go to every concert we could get our hands on, if we were slapped with a $ 3000 fine we would have boycotted everything and just listened to the radio. I don’t download music illegaly and I never had a computer in college, but a lot of my friends did and that was how we got pumped to go to the concert we just paid $ 50 to see! The article that I was reading said that the tactic was supposed to scare kids and make them stop, but it also said that most of the kids are still doing it. What does everyone think about this?

It just goes to show that the American music industry in general is more concerned with money and exploiting talent than making art.
