Q&A: How do I stay connected to business contacts for the future, even though I’m not working now?

Question by brilbeaut: How do I stay connected to business contacts for the future, even though I’m not working now?
I am in the music business, in an area where personal contacts are key. I’ve had to take a year off due to serious problems with my kids. How do I keep in touch with my network (largely in another part of the country) and keep the connection warm and open, even though I’m not yet in a position to get back to work? The connections are warm although most are not actually friends…just friendly acquaintances.

What would be a way to put a “bookmark” in our relationship, so that the positive connection I’ve already made won’t be lost? How can I let people know I still am interested in them and their work, even if I’m not ready to share a project yet?
