Q&A: How do I become a Christian Artist?

Question by 212P: How do I become a Christian Artist?
I’m 15, I love music. I LOVE Jesus with all me heart. I play guitar, bass, keyboard, and drums. I think that God is calling me to be a Christian artist (like Casting Crowns or Stellar Kart) but I have no idea how to get started. how to get gigs, how to get contacts, or recording contracts. I have played music for years and I really love music. I play backup guitar in my Churches youth band and I’m trying to start my own Christian band (named 212 degrees praise from hebrews 2:12) but idk how to get started. I have written several songs (but I’m just now starting to write good songs) and I really enjoy writing songs, and playing/singing origional songs, and songs from other Christian artists.

Please, if you know anything about the music industry help me out. Only serious answers…I’m really looking for answers here!!!

First of all do your homework on getting your original songs a copyright. Too many hopefuls have been ripped off by letting someone listen to a tape or cd of their original works. (Even in the “Christian” music industry, you can’t always trust everyone. Sad, but true.)

Take your time, learn all you can… and stay with it. Most of the big name Christian Bands say that they have had to do a lot of “little” performances all over the USA before they got well known. Getting their songs played on the radio is how most of them became famous, but also by getting to be the opening act for a bigger name group… in larger concerts… which is a lot of hard work, and it takes a lot of traveling. Be sure that you have your high school diploma first before you start traveling!

Stay in school, learn all you can, and keep in mind that every great plan needs a backup plan just to keep you afloat. So, getting a music degree in college is also a very good idea.
