Q&A: Does a contract have to have performance dates to be enforceable?

Question by carrieon31: Does a contract have to have performance dates to be enforceable?
My friend signed a contract to have an in-ground swimming pool installed, then several weeks later decided he didn’t want the pool installed. The contract did not have performance dates. Is it enforceable? Is he in breach of contract by refusing to have the work done?
The contractor is suing him for the total cost of the contract although the work wasn’t performed. He did pay for the pool liner as the contractor stated that he had already ordered the liner. (The contractor kept the pool liner.)

dates not required, court would interpret as reasonable time. Has he paid any money (consideration)? They will probablly just keep the deposit.
