Q&A: Do you think the Philippine Music Industry needs the US mainstream to gain worldwide recognition ?

Question by MIDI: Do you think the Philippine Music Industry needs the US mainstream to gain worldwide recognition ?
I think Filipino bands should be popular around the world too. Europe’s music became popular because of the Beatles and Japan’s music too because of the distribution of Sukiyaki and Anime their place.

I know there’s the Internet but what I’m trying to say is Pinoy music(or at least the pinoy style of music) should be played on radio in many other countries as well as in Ipods and MP3’s of foreigners aside from ones in SE Asia.

Is there any better way than in the US?
@ Rock N’ Wrestling connection:
Typecast, Urbandub, Chicosci, Saydie…there are some all-english bands in the phils. most of them I think are emo.
@ paolylo el piloto naranja:
Maybe the Filipinos aren’t unique with instrumentals but I think they’re unique with lyrics(IMHO).

I noticed Americans gives so much importance to love.
“I won’t live to see another day I swear it’s true…”

“I’m all out of love…I’m so lost without you, I know you were right…”

“Near…Far…Wherever you are…”

But Filipinos aren’t too deep
“I’ll do anything for you even your thesis too…”

“I know deep inside your asking…Who is this fool singing off key…”

“Things are complicated…Like a watch made in Japan…”

I also noticed songs not about love are rare to hear from Americans(mainstream ones anyway) . But in the Philippines songs about random things are common. There’s even a song about a man demanding to get his order from a restaurant.

“I don’t wanna lie in a poorman’s grave…”

“One day I went down the store to buy some vinegar…”

“The Songs of this generation…”

“You have any porkchop!(we’re all out sir)”

Yes! But first Pinoy music should have an identity of their own and not just copying somebody else’s music. Once they’ve done this, I’m certain that people coming from different cultures would appreciate and patronize Pinoy music. I remember Freddie Aguilar because of this but it’s sad to see and hear younger generation of musicians just copying everything they see and hear on T.V. and radio.
