Are there still a few record labels that you can walk into and hand them a demo? Or walk in and play for them?

No, there aren’t.
In the first place, most independent labels aren’t located in Nashville. Rounder is headquartered in Massachusetts, and there are a number of labels in Texas. The “big boys” are in Nashville, not the indie labels.
Secondly, that only happens in movies anymore. Those days, because of varying factors ranging from legal issues to time constraints, are long gone.
Finally, Music Row is drying up. The land is more desirable as high-price residential land than as office space, so the labels are slowly but surely moving away.
