You folks really need to understand more about how the music business works. Generally there are many different contracts or license agreements you can enter into with your clients or artists. You can grant them exclusive rights for a given period of time, you can sell your copyright in exchange for royalties, you can grant a license for someone to record your music either exclusively or not exclusively for a period of time. It might help you to get a copy of The Music Business Contract Library by Greg Forest. It’s also possible that you would be better off signing with Tunecore or another online music promoter. How do you intend to attract artists to your web page? Do you think an artist will want one of your songs if it’s not exclusive? When you attach a time period to the agreement you can make it exclusive for a given number of years. You can also make the agreement contingent upon their actually recording and releasing that song within a given period of time in order to maintain exclusivity.
