Question by good dad: need help on getting a record contract?
i’m in a southern rock christian band and was lookin for some advice on how to get a record deal we have a great demo done with a pro recording studio and we are a great band god has blessed us!!!! we just dont know the next step to take any info or advice would be great or any contacts that could help us get signed with a record lable.thanks and god bless you!

You will have to prove yourself and develop and maintain a following. A great demo doesn’t really cut it anymore… not that it isn’t possible.

I’ve been in the Christian music scene for 15 years, my friends are on labels, Nashville studio musicians and producers, plus, I have 20 years experience professionally performing and teaching guitar and bass secularly and as a Christian.

Get as much work as you can and start making contacts. Be careful coming on too strong as if you are a leach. If you try to hit the top players in the business, you will “blacklist” yourself if you aren’t cool about approaching them. You may be able to get a song onto a compilation disc which may help. Be careful also of who calls themselves a label. Their are a lot of studios and labels that really have no clue. Companies like Sony and Warner Bros. have bought up and control the important Christian studios and so the system isn’t what you would expect it to be.

Summarizing… Get out there, Get known, Get good, and Network, network, network. It take more than a few good songs. Labels don’t climb aboard until the train starts rollin’.

There’s still a lot more than that but this is the most important.
