Need Advice on Job Opportunity!! Please answer!!?

Question by MP: Need Advice on Job Opportunity!! Please answer!!?
I worked for a music management company for about 6 months and became really close with the owner. He’s a great reference for other future jobs and I want to make sure I keep contact. I told him because of school, I won’t be helping out that much anymore. But realistically, it’s because I’m tired of the repeitive work and his unprofessional manner at times (called me at 11 pm one time and asked me to work!)

I just recently found out that his ex-co-partner is offering internships for his new management company and I really want to do it, but I feel like I’ll be backstabbing my old boss. I still like him, but I want to branch out to new things and build my resume. Plus, his ex co-partner knows me and my work ethic so I feel like I could get it.

What do you guys think I should do? I’m so torn between what my heart says and what I need to do to better myself!! Please help!

I would go to his ex-co-partner and tell him I would like to work for him.

This should not really be an emotional decision. You don’t owe anything to your old boss–he paid you for your work and you worked well. He will understand. The worse thing you can do right now is miss an opportunity that could be a decisive step in building your career.

Like I always say: “At least, give yourself a chance to say no.” Explore–nothing bad can come out of it.

Best of luck!
V.
