More and more i see that Oprah and Dr. Phil have gone to mostly pimping other TV shows, local businesses, hotels, whatever – lots of movies and books and TV shows and music – even politicians. Health care places. All of it. Mariah pushing her CD, ok – but then a big bit on a movie called Precious. Can’t i just see the Promo during commercial break??? Uncle Phil was plugging some Jeweler and Wedding Dress place in Philadelphia. And i see this much more now on both their shows. And it is happening other places – more and more cross-promotion, product placement, less and less “content” / entertainment / singing- and the tiny bit of education that once was is pretty much Gone.
Is this annoying to anyone else?
Oh, NOW Opie has on Regis and Kelly – to plug their show. Ugh!
Basically, there is Nothing On in my market during Opie and Uncle Phil. So, if you want background TV sound, that’s about all you get. Also, “Entertainment (Hollywood Promo) Tonight has No Competition – it’s ET or – crap. So this is not by accident. Sometimes i want “TV Company” if i am cleaning, etc – but all i find is One Big Long Commercial.

GET THIS – on a Gilmore Girls Forum (main one, i think) i used to do a satyrical Post about “Uncle Phil’s Man Camp” – and i used the characters from Gilmore Girls and Robin, etc. People loved it! It just started spontaneously, and pretty soon people were asking, “When is the next installment of Uncle Phil’s Man Camp”? I used all his stupid hillbilly expressions (not that there is anything wrong with hillbillies – i’m a redneck myself) and made him slap his wife, etc. hehehe – ok, i took liberties, but Uncle Phil is such a great character to parody, eh? Ok, y’all come back now, ‘hear?”
NOTE: ok, i didn’t mean to sound so POMPOUS about my Uncle Phil posts – like saying how funny i am. Sorry. I should have tried for some humility instead. Let’s see – “I was just kidding. I suck, actually.” 🙂 Later.

You are so funny ! I was laughing out loud. YOU are also so correct with all this.
I quit watching both Op and Phillyboy years ago, as they get so dang preachy.
