Question by Keith: I am producing original music for a stage play. What should i put in contract to ensure i get royalties?
There will be a fee associated with producing the actual music, but I want to make sure that when I draw the contract up, it includes something that speaks towards royalties going forward. Basically, i dont want to get paid $ 2000.00 to create the music, then the play gets picked up nation wide, and I am not included in the success thereof, financially.. hellp!!! 🙂

1.) Become a member of ASCAP or BMI
2.) Make sure the contact does not state that “you sign over all rights to the music”. Contracts can state in many different ways, so read the fine print.
Hope that helps a little.
