Question by Marcelo Y: How to make a contract drafted in foreign language to be valid in California?
Let’s say one of the parties does not speak or read English, so a contract is drafted in Spanish in August of 2009. If a dispute arises in the future, let’s say in August of 2011, the contract is then translated and notarized, will that contract be valid at that time?
If not, what are the steps to make such contract legally valid?

If the contract is written under California law, it is legally binding, regardless of the language it’s written in.

However, it would be a good idea to draft an *exact* copy in English, and have both parties sign the English copy, too.
