Question by zeppeindude93: How do I become a music producer?
Ok, I’m 16. I need more help on what a music producer does. I was thinking of going to Columbia College in Chicago and study Sound Engineering or Audio Design and Production because I live in Chicago. I just need help on what programs and things I should use and how I can prepare myself while still in highschool for it. What classes and things could help me?

theres not really much you can do….try and gain good knowledge of current and past music trends, and what music is popular. also, look at how music is made, as in chords, and different types of scales and all that sort of stuff. then, look at the different genres of music and the different ways they use these things. for example, punk music often uses only 3 chords.
apart from that, you can’t really study for the equipment and how to use it.
finally, dont go to college in chicago just because it is nearby! choose the best college for your course to give yourself the best possible start.
oh, i almost forgot, to geat a career in the music industry its all about the contacts you have…..try to gain as many as possible!
