January 8, 1935; the day Elvis Presley came into our world. He was born in a two-room house in Tupelo, Mississippi. He had a twin brother named Jesse Garon, who was unfortunately stillborn. After that, Elvis and his parents moved to Memphis, Texas in 1948, where he graduated from Humes High School in 1953. Elvis’ music was mostly based on Gospel, but it was mixed with all sorts of different music types. He started his singing career with the Sun Records label in Memphis, Texas. After some time, in 1955 his recording contract was sold to RCA Victor. By the next year, Elvis had become an international sensation. But singing was not his only talent. Elvis had starred in 33 exceptional films, and made history with his television appearances and specials. Around the world he has sold more than one billion records, which is in fact, more than any other artist in the world. He has won numerous gold, platinum, and multi-platinum awards throughout his lifetime for 141 albums and hit singles, which is far more than any other artist. At age 36 he received the Grammy lifetime Achievement award, and was named One of the Ten Most Outstanding Young Men of the Nation for 1970 by the United States Jaycees. He also served his country in the U.S. Army. Elvis has a trophy case in Graceland filled with tons of his gold and platinum record awards of all different kinds. Some of the countries that he received the trophies from were: Norway, Yugoslavia, Japan, Australia, South America, England, Sweden, Germany, France, Canada, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Elvis did not perform his songs in any other language, and the only time he performed elsewhere than the United States was a few shows in Canadian countries in 1957. He has over 149 songs posted on the Hot 100 Pop Chart. Of these, 114 were in the top forty, 40 were in the top ten, and 18 went to number one. He also had 90 albums with ten of them reaching number one.
