Full Steps To Recording An Album?

Question by R_S: Full Steps To Recording An Album?
I am currently planning on recording my first album. But I need help with figuring out the full steps. I write my own lyrics and I put music to them, but I don’t play instruments. I have found a couple of people who can help me produce it, but I need help figuring out all the copyrighting and protecting it stuff as well as getting a licence to sell my music.

I am going to be an Indie artist because I am more about wanting to share my music with others and being creative then being famous. Although, who knows maybe in time I will make it big. But because I am wanting to be Indie do anybody have any good suggestions on how to promote myself? I know I am going to upload my music online, and it may take a while before I release a c-d in stores. I am also going to try and book some gigs and just get out there and have fun with it and take one step at a time. Does anyone know any good promoting companies or distributing companies that I could use when I do want to see actual c-d’s too.

You might want to consider trying to find a local independent record label. Those make more sense for a smaller, local artist, because they can help you take care of promotion, the physical making of CDs, all that, and while it might cost you some money, it will cost you less than trying to do it on your own, and you’ll get better results. So check your area and see if there are any small, independent labels nearby.

As for actually getting CDs printed and made with artwork and all that, we used DiscMakers and got 1000 cds with sleeves and full color art for about $ 1000, which worked out really well.
