Question by #1 princess: Advice on pursuing a entertainment career?
I am from a country state (alabama) and I have always had a desire to be in the entertainment and music industry. I don’t know where to start to get involved in the entertainment field. Should I relocate? If so, where? Should I get in the studio? If so, what do I do when I get there. Or should I go back to school? And if so, for what? I am a 28yr old female. I have a Bachelors in Management Information systems. I just feel like this is 8-430 job isn’tt what I am called to do. I love music with a passion. Some of my favorite artist are India.arie, Lauryn Hill, John Legend, Anthony Hamilton, and etc. I wanted to start writing songs but once again where should I start. I plan on taking guitar lessons next week. Please only serious and experienced people respond!

First of all, get a degree, at least a BA. (OK, you do.)

Then get ready for low wages and unsteady work. You may want to relocate, but you can also build your craft there first. Hold onto that job as long as you can.

Other than that, just write as many songs as you can. Set a goal, one a week. Doesn’t matter if they’re bad – you can file those away. Just write, write, write. That’s how you learn.

Then find an open mic somewhere and go and play them. Do this as much as you can. Once you get some good songs, get a web page, post them on youtube. Copyright some of the songs and send them out to labels.
