Computer Engineering?
Question by mental.note: Computer Engineering?
I am going back to school in the fall to get my degree. I am highly interested in majoring in Computer Engineering because I want to understand how computers are made, how to write programs for them, video game technology, Music Technology and get involved in the process of developing things to help societies/economies work. If I think about the future development of computers and the internet I get excited and want to be a part of that.
My doubts with going into this field is that I will be in way over my head. I am unsure if I will be able to grasp the concepts involved like physics, chemistry, & calculas (as general requirements) and then later concepts of from electronics to software to everything.
I want to have a specialized skill that somebody pays me to provide them with, I don’t want to be part of the rat race to the top, where I have to fight for a middle management position pushing papers.
Please advise me with any suggestions you think will help me with my decision!

I understand the kind of thoughts you must be getting at this point of time.
Its a big decision which will decide whether you are in or out of the rat race.
Computer science is not only about programs, electronics etc, its about logic!!!
If you think that you are a logical thinker by which i mean you second each and every thought with some supportive data based on facts and experience which we call logic , then there is no doubt that you will definitely succeed in achieving your dream.
Its your career, you will have to be with computers through out your life……..so think, are you ready for it? To get the kind of learning you desire you will not only need a desire, but also dedication and commitment.
Try to think whether its your dream or a curiosity? once you ask this question to yourself and get an answer, the things will get much clearer.
Last but not the least: your decision is perfectly alright but do not go ahead until you feel confident enough to put in all the efforts required.
As far as i understand you are a deep thinker and i don’t see any reason except determination which can stop you in pursuing your dream
