Question by Beardcore Exists: About obtaining the “okay” to use a musicians music for radio station purposes.?
If you were to start a radio station (broadcasted over the internet), I understand that in order to play music of musicians you’d have to have their ‘okay’. If they’re unsigned or independent, how do you go about getting this? Do you just have them sign a document that says you can use their music? And if yes, how do I get this document; do I just write it up myself saying “I ARTIST NAME agrees to let PERSON use SONG NAME for radio station purposes under THESE CIRCUMSTANCES” then get it notarized or something? Also, if that same musician goes onto become signed, what happens to the “contract” at that point. Will it not count anymore, as it will be up to their label to decide what to do?

Another question; if I’m trying to obtain music from a musician who is with a label, who do I go to about getting the yay or nay about using the musicians music, the musician or the label? If the musician signs this “document” like the one above, can the label do anything about it? Or vice versa?

You are WAY overcomplicating. There are agencies that do that. You’ll need licenses from ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, and SoundExchange to get permission to use music on your stream. Figure a couple thousand a year.
