if you have a small business and you are a no show, shouldn’t YOU contact the client BEFORE they contact you?

Question by Soul Searchin’: if you have a small business and you are a no show, shouldn’t YOU contact the client BEFORE they contact you?
my child’s music teacher was not home the other night when we went for a music lesson. the house was dark. we knocked.
we waited in the car outside her home for 20 minutes. my car was cold because i have heat issues. not her fault. finally we went home.

i have 3 questions.

1. isn’t it common courtesy to contact a client to let them know you will not be available?
she was in a meeting that ran overtime. she says she was able to text the Other parents. but because i don’t have a cell. she couldn’t get in touch. but she has my land line number. she couldn’t call??!!!

2. shouldn’t SHE have called that night to at least apologize? I had to e-mail her the next morning to ask if she was safe and is everything okay?

3. am i being a beast if i decide to not continue with her. something about it just is a huge red flag. i also believe it was unprofessional and disrespectful. and can i ask for a refund for the remaing classes? i wrote a check. there was no contract.

your thoughts?

She should have let you know that she could not be home for the lesson. I would allow my child to continue until the paid lessons are exhausted and if things are going well you may not want to make a change.

Circumstances made this happen, and yes she should have called you but its possible if she was at work she may not have had your land line number with her.
