Question by chazz: My external hard drive won’t show up on “my computer” “disk management” and comes as unknown device on….?
device manager… I cannot access it in any way..

-the hard drive’s light turns on when I plug it in though…

-whenever i plug it in or replug it says “windows needs to install driver software for your unknown device”

It was working fine before on my computer until I brought it over to a friends to transfer music from his computer to my external hard drive, I thought that went fine, but now my laptop and desktop both say the same things concerning my hard drive

someone please help me! I have files I need, and I don’t want to have to buy a new hard drive
when I do that it says “windows could not find driver software for your device”
that’s the other thing… I have no idea who the manufacturer is because I got it online… probably from some no-name chinese company. I don’t believe I dropped, but I suppose that is a possibility

Go through device manager and update the drivers for it.
