Roddy Walston and the Business is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. But if the band isn’t trying to punk the audience, then someone may have punked the band. Either way, surely someone is pulling something on someone here. “Sometimes all your dreams come true, other times you make a video like this and find out the statement ‘anything is possible’ is a warning,” J. Roddy Walston tells Spinner. “The day we spent making this thing was the kind of experience that makes you look every gift horse in the mouth and ask it for a full storyboard treatment.” Fair enough. Considering that it was directed by Benjamin Gauvain Hoste, the man responsible for charmingly quirky videos by Henry Clay People and Manhattan Murder Mystery among others, of course it’s gonna be strange. But a video like this may have you wondering if J. Roddy Walston and the Business are even a real band or if they’re actually just part of Wayne Coyne’s imaginary plans to remake Spinal Tap. “Yes, we are a band,” says Walston. “Yes, we want you to hear our music. No, we don’t want you to watch this video. At least, we don’t want you to watch it like a music video. Watch it like the TV show, ‘Dog the Bounty Hunter.'” Sure thing, fellas. By the band’s — the real band’s — request, the video should only be seen after the
