For an assignment, I need to research three music publishing companies in the UK, and explain why I they would be ideal to publish a pop band’s music. Can anybody help? Not even sure what a publishing company is¬¬¬

A publishing company, at least in terms of music, is a company that has the resources to produce high quality recordings. They also no doubt assist the bands with the production of the CDs as well as advertising about a band. One major UK publishing company is the EMI Group.

Publishing companies exist because good recording equipment can cost many thousands of dollars, and the cost of mass producing CDs and advertising is even higher. Individual bands generally don’t have the money to do all of this, so they sign a contract where the publishing company handles all that for the band in return for a percentage of whatever money the band makes selling their music.
