LINK: tinyurl.com Mark Dinning (August 17, 1933 – March 22, 1986) was an American teen idol, and pop music singer. He is best remembered for recording the 1960 hit record “Teen Angel”. His sisters Lou, Jean and Ginger comprised the The Dinning Sisters, a popular singing trio. Max E. Dinning was born in Grant, Oklahoma, the youngest of nine children, but was raised on a farm near Nashville, Tennessee after his family relocated from Kansas. From a musical family, three of his sisters, Lucille, Eugenia and Virginia (Lou, Jean and Ginger) formed The Dinning Sisters, who had a Top Ten hit in the late 1940s. (Lou was replaced in 1946 by Jayne Bundesen, who was replaced by a fourth sister, Dolores “Tootsie” Dinning, in 1952.) Dinning pursued a career in country music and in 1957, record producer Wesley Rose got him a recording contract as Mark Dinning. His recording efforts met with limited success until 1960, when he recorded a 45rpm single called “Teen Angel” that was written by his sister Jean and her husband, Red Surrey. The lyrics told of the death of a teenage love that radio stations in the United Kingdom deemed too morbid to be aired, but it went to No.1 on the Billboard Charts in the US Despite lack of airplay in the UK, the song reached #37 on the UK Singles Chart. It sold over one million copies
