Q&A: Can I decline a job offer if I signed an appointment acceptance form but not a contract?
Question by Anna H: Can I decline a job offer if I signed an appointment acceptance form but not a contract?
I was offered a job (UK) and went ahead as above, receiving a conditional offer letter. I have now received my unconditional offer letter and start tomorrow but am wondering if I can still decline? The appointment acceptance form was just a brief thing, compiled by HR. If you’re interested, the reason being is that for personal reasons I need to relocate at the earliest possible date. Any help would be appreciated – thanks!! x

I don’t see how they can physically force you to take the job. Is there something in the document that you signed that says what their rights are if you don’t start the job? Seriously, what can they do to you if you don’t take it……I doubt anything. Even if you signed a contract, they can’t force you to take the job. They may have protected themselves legally by putting some monetary penalties on you….but I doubt it. Check the document you signed….in any event they can’t make you work for them.
