What Do You Think of This Justification for Illegal Music Downloading?

Question by Hecular Sumanist: What Do You Think of This Justification for Illegal Music Downloading?
I download LOADS of music. But if i download an album, put it on my iPod, really like it after an amount of time (staying power) i will buy the album on amazon. Without downloading i would buy much less albums. I have 70 albums on my ipod, you want me to buy it all? The bands still make money from merchandise, concert sales, and biggest – Promotions for companies. They actually only make about 30-60% (usually closer to 30, or less) of their money from album sales, the majority is promotions. Bands won’t go broke. That said i do think if an album is REALLY good the artists deserves some money for their incredible creation so i buy it. It also feels good to have the real copy. I wouldn’t download legally instead of buying a physical copy, no point. I love having a physical album.

In my case, if i didn’t download the bands i would have loved wouldn’t get money from me. And even if they didn’t it’s not as big a loss as some people say.
I don’t particularly like people who JUST download, if they really like the music they should give some money to the band, but in my case downloading has actually helped the band. I mean if everyone was like me bands would be fine for cash. If everyone was like never downloading they would be as well, but in my way the receiver of the music is happier.
Hearing it on youtube is not a real test weather it is a good song/album. If it is still fresh and great to listen to after a month or 2 (which is usually how long i give it) than it is a good song/album.
To the guy who repeated my question only with cars: There is a big difference. When i steal a car from the car industry, the car industry will be 1 car poorer. If i download an album the music industry is NOT 1 album poorer. My downloading has actually made me put in MORE money into the music industry, making the music industry richer. The car industry would be poorer if you did what you say. There is a big difference between stealing cars and downloading albums, and if you deny that you’re an idiot.

Bands are like a museum, with an optional donation. I go in free to the museum, and if i really like the museum i donate. BUT if the museums were pay as you go in, i would not go to any museums and no museums would get my money. This is how i download.
sugaree and the first answerer and the car guy, please respond my museum analogy. You may say that the museums deserve money weather i like them or not as long as i go in, and you have a point, but i don’t have enough money to do that. This way the museums still get money, more money than they would if i paid every time, because if i did i wouldn’t go.

You can attempt to rationalize it any way you want. It still doesn’t make it right. I’ll just drive this car and if I really like the way it handles, maybe I’ll pay for it. But if not, I’ll just keep it for free.

You can get all the free previews you want on the bands website or myspace or youtube or whatever.

Your analogy works much better than mine. Really took the time to flesh it out and highlight the inconsistencies in this guys logic.
