Question by B B: How can I change my child care policy without hurting my business?
I run a small in home daycare/child care center. I keep my ratios low because I offer structured curriculum for 2 year olds, arts, music, ect. When I started I only charges for days attending, not for “SLOTS”, however now 2 years after doing so I think its time to change my policy. I lost $ 135.00 just last week for children not attending. I’m not a “drop-in” service, and I cant fill a “empty slot” on short notice. I’m a parent of 3 kids so I know all about paying for child care slots (I did so with my first two kids) . When I started this business I didnt charge for it because the children attending my center were always here M-F. I’m being taken advantage of by a mom w/ a 2y.o., who would rather leave her child home with her older 10y.o. than to send her to me M-F. I have contracts with all parents, and a parent handout (10 pages) explaining my services. I reserve the right to change my policy or procedures with a 2 week notice. …..

she has no business leaving her 2 year old home with her 10 year old to begin with. maybe someone needs to be informed on that little matter. its not even legal in most states. as far as changing the policy, if most of your kids are there reliably anyway it wont really matter to their parents if you change it, and you did cover your butt with the whole 2 weeks notice clause, so if you feel the need to change it i would give the 2 weeks notice and go with that.
