Music industry connection?

Question by Dan: Music industry connection?
I am seriously considering becoming a music producer as my future career. I am halfway through high school. I’m still in the process of considering all the aspects of this career and developing a rough plan for how to pursue success in this branch. So what is the best way to make as a producer? It seems as if going to a music college would be a big risk and big waste. I have nine years of training in piano and am an amateur guitar player, I know a lottt about music theory. I feel as if a lot of producers are self-taught, and I already have had good success with teaching myself about music production. I’m considering going to business school and starting my own record label. I need to be a producer because I have no vocal talent whatsoever and am white (no rapping for me, so sad). And also, what is the best way to make contacts and partnerships in the music industry. It seems like knowing the right people i a strong factor when it comes to being successful. As you can see I’m dying to learn everything I can so please offer any knowledge you have (if it aint bullshit) thanks!
P.S. I’m specifically interested in producing R&B and hip-hop/rap but I’m not setting any limitations so far
