Do bars that play their own music from CD’s or Ipods have to pay licensing fees?

Question by nausds: Do bars that play their own music from CD’s or Ipods have to pay licensing fees?
I am planning on opening a sports bar and I want to have a DJ booth with a mixer etc. I want to know if I can play the music I have purchased (similar to a DJ) in the bar. Or do I need to purchase certain license rights to play the music in public?
