I am interested in musical production in the music genres of electronic, experimental, new age, and hip hop. I would also like to know what software I should consider purchasing.

A new Mac Book Pro, Or the New Mac Computers will do you just well. Only reason i say so is because the new versions of logic will only be available on Mac Computers and laptops.
