Serious question for criminal law class debate?

Question by Cookie M: Serious question for criminal law class debate?
I am looking or serious answers regarding this question please.

I am performing a debate for class and the topic of my debate will be the chain of posession of digital evidence.

Basically will evidence that has been out of the suspects posession be admissable in court, ie, Suspect uses computer for illegal downloading and distribution of music/movies ect; sells or donates computer, and is being used/has been modified by a new user. Can this computer if tracked or found by law enforcement still be used as digital evidence or has its integrity been compromised?

Seems to me integrity has been compromised UNLESS it can be determined by an expert that the relevant evidence can be tied to the suspect via log in procedures or other unique identifiers that would satisfy the chain of custody.
