RABBITT….DINGLEYS BOOKSHOP

“Dingleys Bookshop” ( written & sung by, Duncan Faure) is taken from South Africa’s, Rabbitt’s 2nd album, “A Croak & A Grunt In The Night” on Capricorn Records in 1977. Rabbitt was & still is South Africa’s biggest rock band to this day, so it was just a matter of time before Rabbitt would break “World Wide” & that was about to happen in 1977 with the release of Rabbitt’s 2nd album, “A Croak & A Grunt In The Night”, which was released in the United States on the “Southern Rock” label, “Capricorn Records” ( Wet Willie,,Marshall Tucker Band,,Allman Bros,,Elvin Bishop,,Stillwater,,Grinderswitch…..) but, because of problems with contracts,, visas etc…Rabbitt never made it to the States & so Capricorn Records couldnt promote or break Rabbitt stateside. Because Rabbitt never made it to the States, Rabbitt’s guitarist & vocalist / songwriter, Trevor Rabin, left Rabbitt in 1978 for a solo career & later joining the super group, “Yes”. Rabbitt released a 3rd album in 1978 as a trio, but that was short lived when Rabbitt’s keyboardist & vocalist / songwriter, Duncan Faure was asked to join the “Bay City Rollers” as their new lead singer in 1978 / 1979 & went on to record 3 albums with “The Rollers”. However, “A Croak & A Grunt In The Night” got rave reviews in the American music press in 1977. Rick Springfield actually covered the Rabbitt song,,”Everybody’s Cheating” from A Croak & A Grunt In The Night in 1978.
