Commercial Music Rights question?

Question by So.. Far.. Gone…: Commercial Music Rights question?
I live in a small town. I own a small business. I dont intend on going nationwide. Just pretty much stay in my area.

Do I have to write the record company to use a 30 second sound clip from a well known band?

Whats the chances of being sued if the company is not contacted?

yes, you should write to them, and say what you mentioned here, that you are a small business and don’t intend on going nation wide.. becasue if they do fing out, the chances of getting sued are big…

if its an old song they probably will let you use it…

(I remember one of my substitute teachers that is in law school told us about this..)
