What Should My Next Step in The Music Business Be?

Question by alphaphenolethylamine: What Should My Next Step in The Music Business Be?
I’m a student and I don’t have a good paying job. I always wanted to earn money with the songs I write. I’ve recorded about 16 in cd’s, but I haven’t registered them yet. I have submitted their titles alone on BMI. I don’t want to lose my rights as the composer. I could post clips of them on the internet or the whole songs, but I’m not sure if that’s too much of a legal risk. I could use the advice from someone who has experience in these things.

If you’re serious about your music, register each song with the US Copyright Office. Then you’ll have the legal backing to protect them, although copyright begins when a song is in tangible form (sheet music, produced on a CD, etc).
