How would I go about starting a musical or acting career?

Question by It’s Lindsey Love 🙂: How would I go about starting a musical or acting career?
I love theatre and music, so I figured, why not go into something I love as an occupation? Any tips on how to start something up like that? You don’t have to answer both, just tell me how to get started on one of them please. &+ I live in Davison, Michigan. Are there any places where producers and such hang out? I know Michigan isn’t really a famous person hot spot though. 🙁

Thanks in advance 😀

All you need are 1,000 dedicated fans. That’s all you need. You can get that in Davison, Michigan or anywhere else. Get out there and take any excuse to sing. Sing in the school choir, the church choir, the local talent show. Offer to sing solos (no one else your age will want them).

Go to the library and get books on acting. Learn what a head shot is and how to write a one sheet. Learn how to memorize dialog quickly. Act in school plays. Join the local community theater.

Do NOT spend a lot of money on this.
Do NOT think you need to go to the big city.
Do NOT worry one bit when you don’t get the part (they probably just wanted someone older, younger, fatter, thinner).
Do NOT get a big head. There is always someone prettier, with a better voice, richer parents or more connected friends and none of that stuff matters as long as you are being a good person and having a good time.
Do NOT worry about accepting small parts–producers have LONG memories and how you behave on the set has a huge impact on future jobs.
Do NOT sign anything (or let your parents sign anything) unless you understand every word–don’t be afraid to have a lawyer read all contract. Seriously. That’s not being “difficult,” it’s being professional.

Watch yourself on video and learn to be honest. There is nothing worse than being awful and not knowing it.

Above all, make up your mind now to be an honest, caring person who enjoys life. Then no matter what happens, you’ll be okay.
