Q&A: Where can I buy original prints of music published during the 19th century?

Question by Marcel H: Where can I buy original prints of music published during the 19th century?
Brahms, Schumann or Schubert would be best.

Any ideas for what to type into google would help too.

Thanks.

I don’t know if this helps at all with what you are looking for, but I know of a few sites where you can download pdfs of scans of original and sometimes rare old scores for free:

The Henselt Library at European-American University (http://henseltlibrary.wordpress.com/) — public domain scores of rare nineteenth-century piano music.

The E. Azalia Hackley Collection (http://www.thehackley.org/about.html) — this sheet music library contains most popular song scores, but also contains some piano marches, quadrilles, and other dances.

Chopin Early Editions (http://chopin.lib.uchicago.edu/) — over 400 first and early editions of Chopin scores.

The Juilliard Manuscript Collection (http://www.juilliardmanuscriptcollection.org/home.html) — 138 rare and priceless autograph sketches, manuscripts, and first editions.

Hope this helps with what you are looking for. =)
