Minga (house pulling) is a chilote tradition of communal work, where a stilt house is moved to a new location by placing it on top of logs and having a group of oxes pull the structure uphill, downhil or across the riverl. Once the house is moved, the happy owner retributes the effort by offering a big meal for the whole community.

This tradition has roots in the word mink’a, which is found in quechua, aymara and mapundungun to convey a form of contract to do communal work in favour of the group.
