So I was hired at a new nightclub as a “gogo dancer” and did not expect to get paid since pay had not at all been discussed with me so I was under the understanding that I was just there to have fun, have some drinks, and encourage people to dance. So I’m dancing with some of the other dancers and we’re literally the only ones dancing so everybody’s eyes are on us. Some mid-50s looking lady storms over to us out of nowhere, grabs us each by the arms, and pulls us each to a separate corner of the club beside some support beam and starts lecturing us each on how to dance like a gogo dancer saying that she’s been in the “business” for years. She starts dancing on the beam with her eyes closed like and does some kind of monster mash dance to a soca song, and when I start dancing to reggae she asks me if I’ve ever heard this type of music… Obviously! It’s a reggae club! So she disappears for a bit but she keeps coming around to monitor me. Keep in mind I’m in the back of the pretty much empty club dancing BY myself with some older lady looking over my shoulder to make sure I don’t get any closer to my dancer friend on the complete opposite side of the club. By now this is getting ridiculous so I grab my security guard friend to tell him what’s going on, and as we’re coming back onto the floor, the lady marches over to us, grabs us by the arms, gets in my face and yells, “Do you wanna keep your job? Do you wanna keep your job??” and keeps asking me 5 more times after I’ve already said yes. She then grabs our arms and drags us to the bar, past people who I had invited to come to the club, and throws our arms down on the bar in front of one of the managers, as if to say “yeah,I found the troublemakers” or something, telling him he shouldn’t pay us, when I did not even KNOW I would be paid.. the whole time there had been no discussion of pay and I certainly had no idea we would have an “expert gogo dancer” advising(embarrassing) us all night. She kept on with her rant and I got so frustrated with her holding this job over my head as if it was the opportunity of a lifetime that I said “I’m leaving” and she pointed to the door and said “door’s that way”. Every time she moved I swear I thought she was going to hit me.. either that or start crying. I went into the back room to talk to the manager and explain what this crazy lady was going and when I turned around I saw her creepy evil face just staring directly at me from the door way like she wanted to eat me. I didn’t even hear what she said next… I was still so stunned I just started to tear up and walked past her and out the door. When I got outside the other manager came to talk to me and ask me what happened.. and he told me he had nothing to do with hiring her. I’ve never even heard of anything like this. My question is, what can I do? I never signed any contracts or papers, so who is she to have given me these orders, let alone grab my arms and pull me? I was completely embarrassed infront of everybody and can’t believe she grabbed me..I can’t just let this go. Legal advice please?
