If I were to sell my laptop to someone locally, would I need to make a contract for as-is or transfer of owner

Question by Jennifer is Curious: If I were to sell my laptop to someone locally, would I need to make a contract for as-is or transfer of owner
I have a laptop that I bought from Dell. I have not yet paid it off (financed), but I am about to sell it to someone locally for cash. I plan to change the ownership through dell so that if they were to ever have any problems and needed to contact warranty, he would be the new listed owner. (at least I hope its that easy). I will continue to make my monthly payments through dell…but my question is should there be some type of contract signed between the two of us at the time of sale stating that he is buying the laptop “as-is”,only after fully inspecting and approving of its condition first? Maybe I’ve seen too many court-tv shows…but I just dont want anything to come back on me. He is paying cash, and will probably not ask for a receipt, should I not really be the one who has to worry so much if something were to ever go wrong in the future? If I do need to make some kind of contract, what kind of contract is it? And are there any websites that would have a template for this form?
The laptop is still under dell warranty for the next 5 months.
