How do file sharing websites get away with it?

Question by Thomas: How do file sharing websites get away with it?
How do websites get away with helping people get free music?
I asked someone before, and they said that it’s not the company that’s held responsible, that they say the website was set up for something else, and people took advantage and started sharing music.
But that can’t be it because every file sharing site advertises the distribution.
It’s not like someone can set up a company that get’s rid of robbed cars and have a sign outside saying free cars here!!! everyone, so how do they get away with doing the same thing with music?
And it’s not just with music, it also happens with software that can be worth thousands.
Stealing music and software is considered a crime isn’t it? So should they not do something to stop it? There’s probably not 1 person that knows about Limewire that does’n know what it’s for, and they also know that Limewire agree with it, because they don’t warn or ban the costumers who do it.

I’m just very curious about this so I thought I’d ask.

Cheers.
Oh, sorry Joe, I thought I wrote that I was just curious at the end!!! Oh wait I did!!!…

sites that have their servers based in countries where these copyright laws etc. are not in place get away with it for that very reason, no laws against it. and people from countries where these laws are in place can then access the data, also most of these sites use torrents, which are files which are shared by people, the torrent site lets you download a small torrent file which then links you to the persons computer who is sharing the data using a torrent program like limewire or bittorrent, people who download these then ‘seed’ it which increases the download speed for other users and it all grows untill the internet is full of this illegal free software.

hope you enjoy my little explaination,
