Question by Brennan: MONEY- Artists or Music Companies?
Hi Guys!
Another Music Industry question:
What happens about the money received when people buy music (e.g buy a CD…you get the picture). I’m almost certain that the big recording companies get the most money…but if that is the case how much? What percentage-though that could depend on the company and artist-maybe an average?

there is no one answer
it depends on their contracts
and how well it sells

it is spilt between the artist(s)
the writer(s)
the producer(s)
the studio engineer(s)
and studio musicians
backup singers
the promoters
the printers
the people that do the “mastering”

the studio people that also help put it together do NOT get a piece of any “tour” money
they have to rely on the music sales

when people steal music
they steal from ALL of THEM too
