how do I make a contract for a horse lease & hold harmless agreement?

Question by Jill: how do I make a contract for a horse lease & hold harmless agreement?
I need to make a contract for half lease on my horses & also a hold harmless agreement for other people that ride my horses. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make them? or any example contracts?

Just sit down and write out the terms that you have agreed to. List both names of the parties to the contract and name the horse and give a description of him. Name the terms of who is allowed to ride your horse, what activities they’re allowed to do with the horse, how often they’re allowed to use the horse, etc. State who will pay you, how much, and how often. State the length of the agreement… for 1 month or more… meaning how often do they have to renew… do they have to give notice that they’re not renewing anymore? Then make sure that BOTH of you sign the agreement!

For a hold harmless agreement, i’m assuming you mean something like a liability release form. For that, state what activities this person is allowed to do and when you’ll be liable and when you won’t. A good idea for that is to go to your state’s statute… most states legislatures have passed an equine activity liability act… those exempt the horse owner from injuries caused from the inherent risks of equine activities… they impose some duties on the horse owner though, so be sure to read them over (you’re responsible for the equipment you provide… make sure it’s not faulty; you’re also responsible for assessing the rider’s abilities before allowing them to ride your horse). So it’s a good start to go find your state’s statute, then write that into your release to have the riders sign.

Sorry, but I can’t help you anymore than that or else it’s an unauthorized practice of law. It’s a really good idea to go to a lawyer to have them write up a contract. It won’t be too expensive since it’s just a simple little contract, and then you could be sure that it’s done right. You can also get the lawyer just to give you advice to guide you in making the contract yourself and that will be even cheaper. And he’ll know where to find your state’s equine activity liability statute.

um, paragraph 3 is the paragraph where I suggested getting a lawyer. How can that possibly be inaccurate? If you’re complaining that I said it’s unauthorized practice of law to help someone write up a contract unless you’re a party to the contract or a lawyer, then I’m sorry but that’s just true… there’s nothing to argue about.

Furthermore, these comments from pete and luv would be a little more compelling if they weren’t the same person on two separate accounts. Pathetic that they’re so obsessed with points and answers that they come here and answer the same question multiple times. Now wait a few hours and they’ll be here accusing me of cheating with multiple accounts or for being “dishonest” in revealing them to the Answers community.
