Miles Contract Saber, Virginia Manufactory of Arms, Richmond, Virginia, c. 1801-1802

The blade is marked 4REG, VIRG, 3 Cavalry, Gloucester. This is one of 1,000 swords made by John Miles of Philadelphia fro the Virginia militia prior to the war of 1812. The tinned scabbard was made circa 1861 when all available weapons were needed to arm volunteers rushing to the colors.
