I have a lot of meetings with strangers and don’t think I have an issue with small talk but it sometimes feels so programmed and stale. So I was wondering this morning after a meeting that featured a LOT of small talk (including various mini-discussions about music, family, technology, market trends, vacation plans, and career goals) what other peoples’ favorite topics for discussion are. I’m looking for interesting, not-so-obvious (or just often overlooked), fairly universal topics. Within the professional guidelines of a casual business relationship, of course.

TV shows, “did you watch My Name is Earl last night”, the conversation starts, how funny was that, ha ha ha
Did you see that semi truck that drove off the bridge on the news last night? That is a good smalltalk starter too.
Very light, non-political, stuff everyone can handle
