Jimi Hendrix – Ziggy Stardust

I came into possession of this recording several days ago, and have been deeply puzzled by it’s implications. A friend of mine who works for a very popular music label that shall remain anonymous in fear of retribution, manged to smuggle this recording out of a small warehouse that holds master recordings and various reels and tapes they own the rights too. He took it home, transferred it to his MAC and then sent me a copy. I was immediately puzzled by the file name. “Jimi Hendrix home recording of Ziggy Stardust”. I consider myself a bit of a music buff and an audiophile, and knew that Jimi Hendrix had died in 1970 while “Ziggy” was recorded by David Bowie in 1972. I gave it a listen and was shocked, it was exactly as it said. The quality was poor, and the song slightly different, but this was indeed the classic rock song “Ziggy Stardust” from Bowies 72 album “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars”. I was stunned. This means one of two things, that A) Bowie some how found this recording and plagiarized it to the letter or B) Jimi Hendrix did not die in 1970. I did some more research and contacted several friends who are in the business. When I brought up the recording I was surprised that my friends and the people who they had put me in contact with were unwilling to answer anything.
