What’s a music sell-out in your own words?

Question by Andy: What’s a music sell-out in your own words?
To me, a sell-out is anyone who’s ever been to an award show or cared about actually winning an award. Also a sell-out is anyone who’s ever endorsed a product like Nas with FILA, or Ludacris with Boost Mobile. Anyone who ever starred in a mainstream motion picture like Mos Def, Common, Snoop, Ice Cube & 2Pac have all done in the past. Anyone who ever was apart of a reality TV show like MC Serch, Prince Paul, Flavor Flav, Snoop Dogg, Rev. Run. Lastly, anyone who is a late night band for a talk show host i.e. the Roots.

But do you actually dislike or hate sell-outs? Because I don’t.
2Pac changed his style after he did “Juice.” Also, Common be doing collabs with Jonas Bros, and starring in commercial…I forgot what he was endorsing though.
@ Alli, great answer! That’s how I feel about it too.
@ Talib, Mos Def should’ve done Independent films but no, he’s too big for that as he has had his music videos shown on MTV.
@ Cap, thanks for a quality unbiased answer for once. I’m just trying to understand what’s a sell out.
@ Thundercat, 5 star answer there.

50 is the biggest sell-out of all. He makes more than any other rapper out there and yet he recently hasn’t released an album, an album acceptable to my standards. But, I’m still a fan.

I don’t think The Roots would be considered a sell-out band, just because of Jimmy Fallon. Sell-Out would be going against what you represent, just to make a couple bucks.
